The S Files: Episode 50

The Tinman & Shabs enjoyed a few beverages again at the Coral Cove Bar & Restaurant in this weeks edition of The S Files.  We were also joined by an international guest all the way from Roma - Guilio.

You know you are really enjoying what you do when you reach the 50th episode and totally forget to mention it.

Once all formalities were aside & we made sure we had hit record it was straight to the cricket. With the Big Bash final on after we finished all talk was about how great it is to see that as the Heat didn't make it at least there was no team from Sydney & Melbourne.

The Australian team has landed in South Africa in what will be a greater challenge than England posed & it may be a quick reality check. It will be interesting to see how the tour goes.

The Super Rugby season is not far off and with the Shabs having the pleasure of meeting Saia Fainga'a this could be a sign of big things to come for the Reds. With the trials starting it will be interesting to see who gets a start in the first game with news that Harris will be getting a run first up with Quade Cooper. Rocket Rod Davis is also back after an injury lay off & big things could be coming his way if he can stay fit.

The mid-cast song is a great cover of the Easybeat's 'Friday On My Mind' by the Rubens.

This gave us time to prepare for the NRL section. Things are heating up for the season but unfortunately yet again the NRL is having a shocker of an off season. With a young player at West Tigers having his contract torn up after a stupid decision to write something offensive during a school visit, we look at how there is no consistency from club to club in the NRL. Let's just say that if he was a high profile player or from Newcastle all he would of had to do was apologise.

On a positive note we progressed in our effort to help & promote the Boston 13's and the Tinman has proudly become a Gold Member & we will be sponsoring a player for the 2014 season. We are really looking forward to covering a great season.

There was a little talk about the NFL Superbowl before we talked about the real world game, Football.  We were joined by our Roma guest Guilio who gave great insight into what he has seen in just a couple of A-League games and we look forward to plenty more comments. The Roar are stuttering but still managing to win or draw games that most teams would not. They almost have one hand on the Premiership & will be hard to beat from here.

The Awards always wrap it up & ASADA yet again cops a blast. Tune in to hear who else features.

As always thanks for listening!!

The S Files : Episode 49

All new equipment & most questions were wanting to know Tinman's Keno numbers. By the way he did win again.

After a slight delay we got the pubcast under way at the Grand Hotel Bundaberg. With the rain pouring down outside and the remnants of a cyclone further North it brought back memories of this time last year. Maybe that is the reason the Tinman forgot to hit record and after a few minutes we realised we had to start all over again.  Maybe it was also the excitement of the new Apogee mic for the recording too. Either way we eventually got it right.

The Cricket season is still going and it still the same old story, Australia play England, Australia beat England & Australia keep making very ordinary selection decisions that are not based on form or statistics in any way.

It is back to the mid cast song as refreshments are needed and w chose a slightly longer one as the crowds had gathered.

Rugby League is in the headlines pre-season yet again for all the wrong reasons, there is an underlying theme that is the Newcastle Knights as well. But it seems that no matter how much a player stuffs up they think all they have to do is say sorry & the club takes no action. Will the NRL get serious this year? Especially considering their own referees are also in the media spotlight now too.

During the week we made the decision that we would not only follow the Rugby League Season in the USA but we would focus on one team. We will be bringing you weekly updates on the Boston 13's who are looking to have a big year this year & winning the Title is the main goal. The season kicks of in May but we will bring any news we can and look forward to covering Boston for a long time & also help raise the profile of the Rugby League scene in the USA.

In the Round Ball Segment we talk about the Brisbane Roar & Liverpool FC. Is there a team that can seriously challenge the Roar this year?  Liverpool are doing well but need to keep winning games to make sure they stay in the top 4 but the 4-0 drubbing in the Derby against Everton is a good sign.

The Awards always wrap it up and there are a few god nominations this week.

Enjoy & spread the word.

The S Files: Episode 48

Thanks to Shabs The S Files now has a Caxirola

Welcome to another installment of The S Files. The Tinman & Shabs decided to get together on Australia Day to give our weekly view on sport & what an episode it is.

After a short reflection on this time last year, we jumped straight into the cricket and with England finally winning a game it is not all rosy for Australia. The selectors are still in our sights and rotation is still a word that as much as they want to deny it, it is still happening. Even though Australia has demoralised England this summer, everyone should not get too carried away with where Australia is at. At the point of recording this episode it was not looking good for the Aussies and if not for the bowlers (AGAIN), it would have been another win for England.

The Big Bash is almost over and with the Heat fizzling out in a season performance that should have Stuart Law very worried about his coaching future, it is time look at where the competition is at.

The Football World Cup is getting closer & even the Shabs is getting excited. We take a look at the EPL and in particular Liverpool before spending some time to focus on the A-League. Is there a team that can seriously challenge the Roar this year?

We mix things up with a classic INXS song in the middle before getting back to sport. The NRL 9 a side competition is getting closer so expect some longer segments soon. Just what happened with ASADA? If we had of known what trouble Willie Mason was about to get into this would have been a whole segment devoted to bashing the Newcastle Knights. Instead most of the spray is saved for Bennett & Gagai.

There is plenty more before we get into the awards & these are well worth listening too. We even way into the Australia Day Awards & it isn't pretty.

And there is nothing like finishing off with another great Oz Rock song.

The S Files : Episode 47

As we close in on our 50th episode, a mark we could have reached already if we could find the missing recordings, a change has occurred. The pubcast finally has a name & from here on will be referred to as "The S Files".  It all came about when we were talking about conspiracy in sport selections which unfortunately Queenslanders are only too familiar with.
Talking suspicious selection methods cricket was the main topic of conversation this week. The Aussies keep winning or is it more that the English keep finding a way to lose? Australia still has a problem with it's batting lineup but yet again the tail wags to save the day. The ODI team is still far from being sorted but at least they are still winning. With the rotation policy back in for the one day side, should the batsmen face the same policy?

The Big Bash is getting close to the finals & it is looking like last year where the Heat struggle all season but rally late to sneak in at the end. If the Heat sneak in the opposition should be worried as the batsmen are yet to fire and are due at the right time.

The A-League is starting to see a few upsets but the standard of officials is still failing. Rather than pumping millions of dollars into Western Sydney the FFA would be better off investing that money to raise the standard of it's officials.

Rugby League & Union are still in the headlines with talk that Andrew Fifita is considering going back to rugby. The Wallabies captaincy debate is raging with Ben Mowen chasing European money. Seems the only ones wanting to talk about the issue though is the media with the players rightfully focused on the upcoming season.

The awards always wrap it up & with Australia Day coming up we close off with a classic.

Also next week may look at the NFL playoffs and give our angle on who we think will win the Super Bowl.

Podcast Episode 46

The Tinman & Shabs bring you this episode from the Coral Cove Bar to cover the on goings in sport during the week. As always we look at the issues that excite us, rile us, piss us off or just generally tweak our interest and we don't hold back or hide our Queensland & Australian slant on events.

They say the Tinman needs a heart but the English cricket team are definitely lacking one and it is the Ashes that kicks off this episode. Australia may have won easy but that doesn't mean the whole team is performing well. Just who did we have in the firing line?

The Big Bash is kicking along & after recently saying that he had almost given up on the Heat, Shabs may be back on board after there win during the week & hopefully a good win this weekend. If Cutting still comes in low in the order expect a spray towards the coach next week.

Does anyone know what is happening with the supposed match fixing allegations involving former NZ cricket players? Shabs would like to know & gets on his soapbox before we look at the debacle that is FIFA & their handling of the World Cup in Brazil & Qatar. This seems to be an issue that will get worse before it is fixed if anything is done at all.

There is always time to let the Tinman look at the EPL & in particular Liverpool FC and it seems he is reveling in the standing of Manchester United at the moment.

The Brisbane Roar just keep strolling along which isn't bad for a team that isn't from Sydney or Melbourne where all the focus seems to be in a code that wants it's game to be the top sport in the country. Once the FFA get their focus further than just NSW & VIC maybe the game will take off bigger & better.

Then it is time to talk NRL & the James Packer jailing. The Newcastle Knights & Wayne Bennett in particular cop a blasting here. While talking league the change of captaincy at the Broncos is also on the agenda.

The Awards always wrap it up each week & there shouldn't be any surprises this week.

Podcast Episode 45

The Shabs & Tinman decided that on such a hot summers day that rather than indulging in the aircon at the Coral Cove Bar we would head poolside & enjoy the nice sea breeze. With a few cold beers it didn't take line to rip into the week in sport. There may be a little feedback from the wind so apologies until we get a get mic adapter for the ipad.

Cricket is front & centre again & how good are the Aussies going this summer, well most of them anyway. The top order failed again and the middle order has a flaw at number 6 called Bailey. Whilst the Aussies will most likely go 5 nil up, there is plenty the selectors still need to get right in the team.

The Big Bash is under way & the Tinman new at the mention of the Heat to step back & let the Shabs loose. The Brisbane Heat have been appalling in their last 3 games & the last game against the Sixers was the final straw for the Shabs. The Heat will need to do a lot to win back the Shabs who will still support the team but no longer wants to waste 3 hours to view such lacklustre & clueless effort from a team that surely has the worst coach in cricket at the moment in Stuart Law.

Looking at the World Game the Tinman is always happy to give his update on Liverpool FC who are enjoying a good season & still sitting in the top 4. We are not sure what the Tinman is enjoying more, Liverpool sitting 4th or Manchester United yet again losing another game & squandering down the ladder.

An update on the A-League & more importantly the Brisbane Roar follows and it is looking like another Orange final with more distance being put on at the top of the table. It is not all rosy for the A-League though with the Wanderers & Victory bringing the game into disrepute, the Tinman gives his views on the situation & unfortunately his thoughts on Gallop that he raised on the FFDU podcast that he joined in on in Sydney almost 18 months ago may be too close to the mark.

The NRL Auckland Nines are getting close and what is it with reports that Brad Fittler is coming out of retirement. We give our views on the 9's at this stage. Expect a more thorough examination as the tournament gets closer.

There is little going on in Rugby for the Aussies but with Digby Ioane playing for Stade Francais we will keep you up to date with how things are going for the team in pink.

The awards always wrap things up and the closing song is a Jimmy Barnes classic.

Podcast Episode 44

We are never backwards in saying we are Proudly Queensland

The Tinman & Shabs are back with the last episode for 2013. There is no mucking around as we get straight into the Ashes & we are pretty sure our segment lasted longer than the tail does for England. There is plenty to talk about & the channel 9 commentary team cops a blast.

Normally a longer spiel would be written highlighting what we talk about but you will have to tune in to see what we have to say. All that can be said is the Big Bash follows and rather than a mid cast song we continue straight on. We also like to talk about the mighty Liverpool FC & of course the dominant Brisbane Roar feature too.

We promote the sun safety message, so here is an example of what happens when you don't Slip,Slop, Slap.

We look back at 2013 before some well deserved awards are given for the Marto, Bryce & SSO Fail. In other words we didn't miss poor commentary, umpiring & general attempts at sport.

The Shabs has started up a new saying but just what does "Pussy on the Chain Wax" mean?  The Tinman was happy to join in but really stuffed it up at one point.

And our final song for 2013 is a message to all the English batsmen when they are given out by the umpire.
