Billy the Kids own Fault

The biggest news to come out of the Four nations win Australia had over the English was the injury to Billy Slater.  After receiving the International Player of the Year Award for the second time Slater would have been on a high going into this match.  But it was the decision to attempt a shoulder charge on the English winger Ryan Hall to stop a try when it all came crashing to an end for the season.

For some reason Slater of late never tries to make a genuine tackle as his try stopping effort, rather instead going for the big bump.  A shoulder charge is always risky and if it goes wrong leads to serious injury.  Slater has now learnt this lesson.  What I cannot understand is why he did not try and go low and take out the wingers legs, the winger was far enough out and in taking the legs it is easier to put them into touch.  I don't think we will ever see a change to the way Slater plays but I think he needs to look at changing this part of his defence.

All said I wish Slater the best of recoveries and hope he is back on the paddock soon without any long term affects.
