Manly Are Run By Fools

Would you trust this man?

So Manly have decided to stand down Des Hasler and demanded he face the Club Board and answer to accusations of breaches on contract.  The board at Manly must be run by some of the biggest fools in the game if they thought Hasler was going to stay true to his loyalties for the last year of his contract before going another club.

Even I knew that Manly should have torn up his contract when I posted this article "Contracts in Sport" back on October 9.  Hasler was always going to help his new club Canterbury recruit players ready for his reign in 2013.  And with players in his current club on contracts that have get out clauses if the coach leaves then surely there must have been obvious signs that things would go to pieces very quickly within the club.

It is even more ridiculous that a decision to send Hasler on his way has not happened yet.  Manly has now started to dive in the premiership markets and is a club in turmoil. Any serious gambler would be putting some money on Manly for the spoon at the rate that the club is going.  Regardless of how good your playing roster is, if the administration is falling apart everything else at the club will fall apart too.  Their seems to be no organisation at the club and internal fighting will tear them apart.

The problem is, Manly is in a position that they have brought upon themself.  The moment Hasler signed with another club they had grounds to send him on his way before he could start damaging the club from inside.  When a coach leaves he will always take staff and players with him, but you do not leave him inside your own precinct and enable him better opportunities to do so.  By not having the balls to sack him and start fresh hoping he would deliver them one more premiership will have long lasting effects.  They will end up losing not only staff and players they could potentially be looking at the loss of supporters and sponsors, something no club in Sydney can afford.

UPDATE:

Well Manly have finally done what they should have done a a couple of weeks after they won the grand final.  They have finally sacked Hasler.  But all is not good for Hasler as he is now facing the prospect of lgal action.  Will be interesting to see how the dust settles on this one.  Maybe the Broncos will look back and wish they ahd of handled the exit of Bennett better.
