Australia beat South Africa

A pretty happy debutant

Australia have kicked off their one day competition against South Africa with a crushing victory in a rain affected match.

I was not able to watch the game and had to watch highlights but from what I have seen South Africa were totally outplayed and might be looking for serious answers if they back up again in the same way.  Could be a long summer for the Boks.  Fingers cross they fail again.

It was good to see Cummins do well on debut and if he backs up again in game two he looks like a good chance to get a baggy green.  But with Mitchell Johnson getting in the wickets as well, it will be interesting to see which way the selectors go.  A couple of Johnson's wickets were tail enders, but recently it is the tail Australia has been having trouble cleaning up, which could be in his favour.

What was unfortunate about this game was the weather.  One day cricket games that are dictated by a mathematical equation that most don't truly understand are never quite an indication of the two teams.  Australia were well poised before the rain and probably would have posted a decent score. South Africa from ball one were playing 20/20 cricket and did not have enough time to lay a platform.  Australia though took advantage of the situation and rammed home the authority to take the mental edge into the next game.

Hopefully game two will see good weather and how these two teams go over the full 50 overs.
