Australia are to be congratulated for winning a third place playoff at the Rugby World Cup. After such a disappointing performance during the World Cup it was good to see them turn up and play hard.
From the start they looked sharp but with early injuries to Beale and Cooper it was not looking good. Sad to see Cooper out of the Cup in such a way as for the short time on the field he was looking the best he had all tournament. Let's hope his knee injury is not too serious.
Berrick Barnes played well and was a well deserved man of the match. Although I do not like it when they keep announcing the man of the match before the game is over. When it was announced Wales were still in a position to win. I also thought that Slipper had a great game.
Overall watching the game it seemed like more of the same, the ref cannot see what one team does and Australia were on the wrong end of many decisions. A blatant forward pass that leads to a try and it also looked like an offside in the same passage. Many a knock-on was missed among many indiscretions in the ruck. On that though Wales were pathetic in attack and never looked like being able to score through general play.
Maybe if Australia played with this much mongrel in defence last week it might have been a different story.
